April-May
Look for spring color!  Pansies, violas and primrose will tolerate the cold temperatures.
Once the soil is drier, you can prepare your annual, perennial and vegetable beds for planting by turning the soil and applying fertilizers.
You can get a jumpstart on many flowering bulbs by planting them indoors in pots and then transplanting them outdoors after danger of frost.
Prevent weeds in your gardens by putting down Preen.
Preen, a pre-emergent, prevents weed seeds from germinating.Existing weeds must be removed as Preen will not kill them
Preen should be reapplied every 8 to 10 weeks. NEW Preen for Vegetable Gardens.
Control dandelions and broadleaf weeds in mid-May by putting down Greenview Spring Weed and Feed Fertilizer (red bag) and still get some crabgrass control plus watch your lawn green up from the fertilizer.  Two jobs done at one time.
Keep cleaning out those beds.  Remove dead leaves and stems.  Think about replacements for anything that died.  Now is the time for best selections at the garden center.
When planting new trees, shrubs or perennials prevent transplant shock with a solution of Root Master B-1.  This works for houseplants too.
Annuals and vegetables can be planted after danger of frost.  We typically use Mother's Day as a guideline.  However, we have been known to have frost as late as Memorial Day!  Watch those evening temperatures.  If it is going to drop below 30 to 35 degrees you may want to cover your plants with a sheet..
Do you have dead spots in your lawn that pull up like a carpet?  Then you may have a grub problem.  Grubs feed on the roots of your grass as they work their way up to the surface where they emerge as japanese beetles.  Remember all those beetles last summer?  You can use Milky Spore, Bayer 24- Hour Grub Control or Bayer Complete Insect Killer. We have them all!
